Conventional gallbladder surgery requires a cut on the skin and wall of abdomen (incision) of about 10-15 centimeters. The commonly performed laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, which is less invasive, still requires three to four incisions, and in certain cases some surgeons prefer even additional incisions, though smaller in size.
Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) or Scarless Laparoscopic surgery is performed with a single small incision in the belly button. Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) or Scarless Laparoscopic surgery is the best laparoscopic gall bladder surgery and best laparoscopic surgery for appendix because the single small incision means lesser pain for the patient, no visible scar, and faster recovery. The lesser pain, lesser wound complications, and better cosmesis owing to virtually invisible scar brings better patient acceptance and better patient experience, particularly amongst female patients.
